Software Defined Radio (or SDR) is one of those things that I never knew existed as I was getting into the radio hobby. After learning about it, it's one of the coolest radios in my humble communications arsenal. In this video I want to introduce you to SDR, and share just the slightest glimpse of what it has to offer in the hope that it inspires others to get into it and learn more. AND I may add...great links to more information on installation and equipment! Like one-stop shopping! Thanks.
As a formerly active HAM operator, I watched this vid and was very impressed with the entire format!
Tom, I have a question: can I connect my dipole roof antenna cable to the kit Dipole antenna? My cable has a Male connector and I hope I can connect it to the kit antenna, hopefully a Female connector.
Also, does it matter what the OS is on the laptop?
I ordered the dongle through your link. Hope you get a commission, but
PLEASE NOTE: Amazon is currently out of the Dongle as a separate order, but is included in the SDR kit. I ordered the entire kit.
I originally had an iCom7300 transceiver plus other goodies. Also have an FCC General ticket. No need for just listening. Cheers, Bob (NE of Syracuse, NY)
I just ordered one.. Am looking forward to "Tuning in". I have a friend who has several radio's that has talked from Oregon to out of the country.
Awesome video about SDR... Is there any software and SDR stick that will work with Mac ?
Excellent presentation.
Welcome to a decade ago. ;)
What about for departments who went digital or that use encryption?
I just read last week that police departments are starting to encrypt their radio signals - or at least talking about it.
Anyone tried one that is compatible with MacOs?
One of these and a raspberry pi and you help supply data to flight radar 24 & get a free business account for your trouble.
Use metric system!
You would think that the police would have their radio communication encrypted or hidden at this point to protect themselves against the criminals. But apparently not.
Um, the antenna doesn’t care about its orientation. So whether the center conductor side is up or the outer braided conductor is up doesn’t matter. This is because when the radio wave hits your antenna it induces a voltage across it, and the receiver doesn’t care about the phase orientation of the wave. If you were connecting two or more antennas together to make a phased array then you would have to make sure to have the phasing cables going to the same ends of your antenna.
I was going to say you don't need the antenna to be exact. I made a 10 meter dipole that receives all over the place you just wouldn't want to try and transmit with it. Might get one of those to play with sounds like fun
Unfortunately late last year some of the Chicago Police Department radio went encrypted.
If you see anyone wearing the Punisher logo it's probably someone the actual Punisher from the comics would hate
Nice but try build hearing ads that can hear every one around you for evil intent
A perrfect present for your nosey friends
